The host of The Colbert Report will play host the cast of the upcoming movie, announcing the upcoming series during his show on Thursday.

“I have never met a bigger Tolkien geek in my life,” Mr. Jackson said during a November interview. “Philippa Boyens is our resident Tolkien expert, and when Stephen came down to visit the set, we put him head to head with Philippa on a Tolkien quiz—and Stephen triumphed. I have to say, his encyclopedic knowledge of Tolkien is spectacular, and points to a deprived childhood in some respects.”
Regarding Mr. Colbert’s cameo, Mr. Jackson has yet to confirm it. Mr. Colbert, who has made no attempt to hide his enthusiasm for the Hobbit series, speaks Elvish, the language spoken by elves in the book, and visited the New Zealand set of the film during production. Speaking at the time, Mr. Jackson neither confirmed nor denied Mr. Colbert’s appearance in the movie.
“I read that, too—it was very, very interesting,” Mr. Jackson said during the same interview. “It’s yet to be confirmed or denied.”
Mr. Jackson’s “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” will arrive in movie theaters December 14.
