Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio has reportedly broken up with his Victoria’s Secret model girlfriend Erin Heatherton. A source confirmed the break up to E! Friday.

This is not the first time that Mr. DiCaprio has parted ways with a model. Prior to Ms. Heatherton, “The Great Gatsby” actor dated models Gisele Bündchen (who is currently married to New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady) and Bar Refaeli. His relationship to Ms. Bündchen lasted from 2001 to 2005 and his relationship to Ms. Refaeli lasted from 2006 to early 2011.

E! notes that Mr. DiCaprio and Ms. Heatherton took a romantic excursion to Mexico in January, bringing along Irmelin DiCaprio (Leonardo’s mom). The in-demand actor, however, spent a considerable amount of time filming “The Great Gatsby” in Australia last year and a comparable amount of time shooting “Django Unchained” this year.

The E! source notes that the celebrity couple are still friends. “They still love and respect each other very much,” a source told Us Weekly. “It was just time to move on.”

Whether you’re Ms. Refaeli, Ms. Bündchen, Blake Lively or one of Mr. DiCaprio’s other girlfriends, you’re getting the chance to date a wealthy, popular and successful film star even if it’s only for a short period of time.

Forbes reports that Mr. DiCaprio has earned $37 million as of May 2012, making him one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood. In addition to his wealth, the film star also founded the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation. According to Look to the Stars, Mr. DiCaprio has supported 19 charities and foundations in one way or another during his film career.

Mr. DiCaprio, who is known for his portrayals of fictional and non-fictional historical figures (i.e., Howard Hughes in “The Aviator), may have been spending too much time preparing for his role as Jay Gatsby in “The Great Gatsby” to make his relationship with Ms. Heatherton work.

“We look upon and say Leonardo DiCaprio and Toby Maguire are such great artists and they are, but on set and otherwise they are like pupils who want to be taught and they are very obedient and want to be sincere in their work, no airs, no tantrums, just wonderful people,” said Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan when asked in interview with Anupama Chopra about working with Mr. DiCaprio and his cast mates, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Given Mr. DiCaprio’s devotion to the craft of movie making, headlines such as these seem likely to fill entertainment pages for years to come.
