Apparently Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s message of change has failed to convince one future voter.
Speaking in an interview with ABC News, Elizabeth Evans, the mother who posted a Youtube video of her daughter saying that she is tired of “Bronco Bamma and Mitt Romney,” says the 2012 campaign has left her daughter supporting President Obama.
“She talks about Mitt Romney and Barack Obama all the time,” Evans says in an interview with ABC. “She always says that Obama is the president and that Mitt Romney is a bad guy who just wants money and wants to be the president… She is very precocious.”
The 22-second YouTube clip, published yesterday, shows the little girl with tears streaming down her face as she expressed frustration with state of the 2012 campaign. The video has since gone viral, capturing more than 1.25 million hits in just 24 hours. Speaking Thursday, Evans provided context to the video, saying her daughter, an avid follower of the campaign, seemed upset by something.
“I just picked her up from daycare so she was grumpy after a long day and we were driving to the grocery store listening to NPR,” Evans said. “And I wasn’t really listening and when I was getting her out of the car, she started saying that she was tired of Bronco Bamma and Mitt Romney.”
The video led to NPR issuing a formal apology, saying many voters likely share her frustration with the state of the race.
“On behalf of NPR and all other news outlets, we apologize to Abigael and all the many others who probably feel like her. We must confess, the campaign’s gone on long enough for us, too. Let’s just keep telling ourselves: ‘Only a few more days, only a few more days, only a few more days,'” the news network said.
The video comes as the 2012 campaign is set to end in less than a week. Polls show President Obama and Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney engaged in a tight race. Abby and her mother reportedly live in Fort Collins, Colorado, a closely fought battleground state where more than $83 million has been spent on campaign advertising. The race is seen as one of the most important in the country, and could help decide which candidate captures control of the White House.
The 2012 race has drawn criticism from a number of independent groups. Both parties are expected to raise upwards of $6 billion, making it the most expensive campaign cycle in history.
