Joss Whedon creates Romney endorsement ad featuring zombies

Joss Whedon has warned that the election of Mitt Romney as U.S. president will bring about a zombie apocalypse in a new satirical clip.

Filmmaker Joss Whedon has one message for voters: vote for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

At least that is part of his message.  The ‘Avengers’ director has created a spoof endorsement video, telling voters that they should support the former Massachusetts governor if they are interested in seeing America descend into a  “zombie apocalypse.”

In a YouTube video posted online on Sunday, Whedon says a Romney presidency would lead to steep funding cuts for education and key federal programs, such as Medicare and Medicaid.

“Like a lot of liberal Americans, I was excited when Barack Obama took office four years ago,” Whedon says. “But it’s a very different world now. And Mitt Romney is a very different candidate, one with the vision and determination to cut through businesses’ usual politics and finally put this country back on the path to the zombie apocalypse.”

“Romney is ready to make the deep rollbacks in health care, education, social services, reproductive rights, that will guarantee poverty, unemployment, overpopulation, disease, rioting, all crucial elements in creating a nightmare zombie wasteland,” Whedon continues. “But it’s his commitment to unregulated corporate privilege that will nosedive this economy into true insolvency and chaos.”

The ad is the latest endorsement from the world of entertainment; both Madonna and ‘Girls’ creator Lena Dunham recently announced their endorsement of President Obama for re-election.

Whedon, who is known for his cult hits, has made his support of President Obama clear. The famed director has  donated over $35,000 to the president’s campaign in recent months, and he has publicly endorsed Obama. That figure doesn’t include the $100,000 he has contributed to the Democratic National Committee this cycle alone.

The video comes as polls show Obama and Romney remain in a deadlocked race for the White House. Both Obama and Romney are slated to continue their courtship with supporters in key swing states, such as New Hampshire and Ohio. Romney will travel to Ohio, while Obama will remain in the Washington region, coordinating federal relief efforts related to Hurricane Sandy.
