"I worked hard on my body," Miss Indiana tweeted earlier this week.
Mekayla Diehl, known to those who tuned in over the weekend to watch the Miss USA 2014 competition as Miss Indiana, may not have taken home the crown on Sunday, but she won the hearts of Twitters users for “looking like an average woman” and not being “crazy skinny.”
While it was Miss Nevada whose name was read at the end of the competition, her victory seemed to be overshadowed by the attention focused on Diehl’s “normal” looking body.
“The funny thing is that the bikini did not fit me well,” Diehl said Tuesday on Fox & Friends. “And people made a point to tell me that! But if that’s the only negative…then I’ll take it. I think the inspiration to some young girls has been wonderful.”
How did Miss Indiana do it?
“I worked hard on my body without obsessing over being too skinny and I couldn’t be more proud,” Diehl tweeted Monday.
According to Daily Mail, Diehl’s swimsuit, which is worn by all of the contestants, was designed by former Miss New York Kandice Pelletier.
