George W. back in the spotlight to help brother Jeb fundraise

Both Jeb and George Bush will attend a fundraiser for the Right to Rise PAC tomorrow in Dallas, Texas

After years of living in the shadows, away from the public eye, former president George W. Bush will make a rare political appearance at a fundraiser for his brother Jeb’s Right to Rise PAC.

The event will take place on Wednesday in Dallas, Texas at the home of millionaire bank executive Gerald Ford. The invitation suggests donations of $5000 from individuals and $100,000 from couples.

Although Florida Governor Jeb Bush has not officially announced his intention to run for president in 2016 (unlike Ted Cruz who announced his candidacy on Monday), it is clear from the guest list that Bush has the support from the wealthy business establishment of the Republican Party. Indeed, many names seem to have come right from his brother’s rolodex – men and women who received their political appointments from George while he was Governor or President.

Among the guest list of about 50 top Texas political backers are real estate developer Woody Hunt, oil man T. Boone Pickens, attorney Mike Boone, former U.S. Commerce Secretary Don Evans, former U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, former ambassador to Switzerland Pam Willeford, homebuilder David Weekley, former U.S. Rep. Tom Loeffler, and beer distributor John Nau.

Jeb clearly hopes to demonstrate to other Texas presidential hopefuls, like Rick Perry and Ted Cruz, that he can still dominate the hearts and minds in his home state, even after being away for years.

George W. Bush and his wife Laura Bush will be special guests at the event’s reception. This will be the first time that George has attended any of his brother’s fundraisers.
