Katy Perry is getting her own mobile game

Move over, Kim Kardashian!

Katy Perry is getting her own video game app.

The Super Bowl singer just signed a deal with Glu Mobile, the same company that launched Kim Kardashian’s game, and we can expect the launch of the game later this year on both iOS and Android devices.

Glu Mobile has not revealed a lot of details about the game yet, but they have gone on the record saying that the game will feature her “voice, likeness, and personality, [and] the game will introduce players to a digital playground of global success and talent.”

Niccolode Masi, Glu’s chief executive, told The Guardian, “Ultimately the Katy Perry title and its specificities will be under wraps until it comes out. But I think it’s fair to say that it’s not going to be a shooter [game].” Instead he said we can expect “something closer to a narrative-based RPG makes a lot of sense than an action-RPG for example.”

Katy Perry has over 77.1 million Facebook fans and 64.6 million Twitter followers, which should work out well for her and Glu Mobile when it comes to marketing the game.

Kim Kardashian has 25.3 million Facebook fans and 28.5 million Twitter followers. Kardashian’s game was released in June 2014 and made $74.3m of revenues by the end of the year, from a relatively small – in mobile game terms – 28.4m downloads.

All of this bodes well for the success of Katy Perry’s game.

Glu Mobile has been scouting around for other celebrities and public figures to create partnerships with. The appeal for them is clear, a new source of income that requires little effort from from their talent outside of voice performances and promotion through their social media networks
