There's news outside of Trump.
I hate Trump. Let it be known that I hate me some Trump. In fact, I hated Trump before it was cool. A quick browse through the articles I’ve posted over the past two years should bear witness to that. But there are important things going on in the world, so can we please leave the man alone and let him play golf while telling us all what a great job he’s doing?
On the subject of the Stormy Mueller yadda yadda insert name scandal, I say if there is actionable evidence, bring it to court and let the jury decide. I’m sick and tired of the news media covering the shape of every booger to come out of the president’s nose while there are newsworthy things going on out there that people deserve to know about.
Three weeks before Parkland, Bailey Nicole Holt and Preston Cole were killed in a terrible mass shooting at a Kentucky high school; eighteen others were wounded, including fourteen who were shot. Where was the outrage? Wall to wall coverage? The thoughts and prayers? Do the kids at Marshall County High School not deserve thoughts and prayers at the very least? Yet all I remember seeing from the mainstream media was Stormy Daniels, Stormy Daniels, and Stormy Daniels.
Last week, there was a major development of a rape case in India, promises to further the tide forever shifting the culture in that country. Did that make CNN? Of course not. What was on CNN? Speculation about Rudy Giuliani.
Don’t get me wrong; indictments about Trump’s lawyer and inner circle are newsworthy, but it bothers me when the news can’t figure out what to fill space with and so rather than cover real life happening elsewhere in the world, there’s all this devotion and speculation and guesswork about Trump, Trump, Trump. They bring on one panelist and another expert and they talk, talk, talk about what they all think the Michael Cohen office raid means.
The other thing is this propensity to report on what Trump says. At what point are these news outlets going to figure out that Trump lies so much nothing he says means anything? And yet he’s done some things that don’t make the news. No one hears about it until one of the satirists points it out months later.
Trump’s attacks on the ‘mainstream media’ wouldn’t be so bad if the mainstream media didn’t validate them.
This morning, looking at the front page of the New York Times, I see the headlines: “Denied a Role in Washington, Cohen Profited.” He’s corrupt. Knew that already. “Europe… despite Trump.” Figured that out when Merkel alluded to it a year ago. “North Korea, North
Korea.” I’ll believe it when I see it. “Trump some random department nominee bullshits her way to nomination.” What else is new?
Meanwhile in Kenya, a dam burst, killing almost fifty people.
