It's time to take the mote from our own eye
We Christians need to ignore the whole #GayMarriage thing
Now here we come to a little thing in our political maelstrom, where homosexuals want to get married to one another, and conservatives among us are deeply offended. It’s all part of the greater #lgbt or LGBTDNCXYZPDQ whichever you want to call it movement
Same conservatives, BTW, who like to pass themselves off as being deeply rooted in the teachings of Christ #Jesus who was, if anything, definitely not a political conservative.
The Bible Condemns Homosexuality
That, it does. And let no one try say otherwise, that the Bible very clearly condemns homosexuality.
It also says that when a virgin is raped, the penalty is that she has to marry her rapist; the Bible says a lot of things. In truth, the same book that condemns homosexuality also condemns lying, cheating, theft, murder, usury, greed, corruption, pride, arrogance, and a whole slew of other things. It also says “for ALL have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” It also says “judge not lest ye be judged.” We don’t have the right to single out any one sin to be punished above all others.
And, homosexuality has been around for a LONG time – the Bible itself is proof of that. It’s not going anywhere. Allowing people to live without fear of condescension and ridicule isn’t going to make straight people any less straight. If anything, treating all fallible human beings with love and acceptance aligns more with what Jesus actually taught. Each #christian has a responsibility to live in accordance to His teachings, which include not using the Law as a crudgel to hurt people.
The Sanctity of Marriage
The argument given to us is that allowing men to marry men and women to marry women degrades the sanctity of #marriage. It goes against the idea of a #traditionalmarriage this is true.
But let’s be honest. Two people who love each other wanting to make a lifetime commitment is not a threat to the sanctity of marriage. A 40-50% divorce rate is. How is it that we can sit in our high places and expend so much time and energy condemning one “threat” to the sanctity of marriage while ignoring something truly threatening. It’s worth repeating: HALF of all marriages end in divorce.
That is a threat to the sanctity of marriage.
But for some reason, no one wants to talk about that. Better to just blame the gays.
