At the TechCrunch Disrupt conference in New York City yesterday, seven startups emerged as finalists in the conference’s 2015 “Startup Battlefield.”

The contest pits 24 promising startup companies against each other for a final prize of $50,000, and of course, the Disrupt Cup.

“It was very difficult to make the decisions, but after much deliberation, we’ve got our seven finalists picked out,” TechCrunch’s  Alexia Tsotsis, one of the judges, said in a blog post. “These companies will move on to the finals round tomorrow to compete for a large check and an even larger cup.”

All the finalists promise cutting-edge products, any of which could be the next big thing tech wise. BioBots builds 3D bio printers and bio inks. In particular, the company enables users to build 3D living tissues for tasks like scientific research, high-throughput drug screening and implantation. Another finalist, Bitfusion is developing unique software technology that it claims will unlock hardware acceleration by orders of magnitude, without requiring application rewrite.

Another finalist, Cloudwear, has developed authentication that is even more secure than two-factor authentication, and easier to use, it claims. Intriguingly, the company offers a free API, so developers can easily add it to any website or mobile app.

DigitalGenius uses proprietary artificial intelligence to enable Fortune 500 companies to automate repetitive intelligent labor. The company says its enterprise software can automate human-like conversations at scale.

Meanwhile, with droughts wracking the western United States, Liquidity has a product that could be immediately in high demand. This finalist manufacturers consumer water-purification filters, with the goal of bringing healthier drinking water tot the entire planet.

And no group of cutting edge startups would be complete without a company attempting to revolutionize energy consumption. Nucleus Scientific is hoping to “fundamentally change the way energy is utilized in transportation and related industries globally.” The finalist’s first innovation shortens the charging times of off-the-shelf batteries to only a few minutes, while simultaneously expanding their total lifetime.

Finally, PageCloud is trying change the web forever by bringing the power of desktop publishing to the browser. It’s product is integrated with desktop applications, but native to the cloud.

Which of these finalists will emerge with the Disrupt Cup? Stay tuned.
