Leaked: Blackberry’s new curved ‘Venice’ Android phone is getting people’s attention

All sorts of details are flooding in on the brand new Blackberry smartphone, and we've got them here.

Is Blackberry back? Ever since smartphones essentially gave Blackberry phones the boot years ago, it seemed like the company was on the outs: but is the new Android-based Venice phone its savior?

Blackberry is getting ready to launch its first Android phone, and new leaked details indicate that phone appears to be similar in design to Samsung’s Galaxy S6 Edge, except it has curved sides, according to a Daily Mail report.

It will be the first major foray into the market for Blackberry since its BB10 touchscreen handsets failed to catch on.

The report indicates that the phone will be launched on AT&T’s network, and the code name for the project is “Venice.” Blackberry had revealed earlier this year that it would consider building a phone using Google’s Android software, a first for the company.

In doing so, the company appears to be moving away from revamping its own line of devices in favor of an entirely new approach. The company had avoided using Android in the hopes that its Blackberry 10 phones would be able to bring back market share lost to the iPhone and other Android-powered devices. But that bet failed, and now the company looks to be changing up its strategy.

Blackberry has a long way to climb back into relevance. Once the dominant player in the phone market, the company now has a market share of less than 1 percent.

It’s not clear whether or not this means the end for the Blackberry 10 line of devices that it had launched in 2013 to a great deal of fanfare, but the product was a flop and never caught on with consumers.
