Official renderings of the LG G4 leaked onto the internet through a promotional website that LG itself set up.

The world got an early look at LG’s latest smartphone over the weekend, as images of the new G4 device hit the web two weeks ahead of the phone’s official announcement. According to Mirror, official renderings of the new device leaked onto the internet through a promotional website that LG itself set up. The site accidentally went live ahead of schedule, and now, the whole world is getting to see the LG G4 early.

If LG needs a scapegoat, they can point the finger at Evan Blass. A Twitter celebrity with 176 thousand followers,, Blass has earned notoriety for his talent of searching out and posting about high-profile leaks such as this one. He officially broke the news about the LG G4, tweeting an image of the device on Saturday.

The new G4 will be LG’s flagship smartphone. In other words, it will be the device that the company pits against high-profile gadgets like the iPhone 6, the Samsung Galaxy S6, and the HTC One M9. Unsurprisingly, the G4 looks a bit like all of those phones on the surface, with measurements of 149.mm height, 75.3 mm width, and 8.9 mm in thickness.

LG is offering a few features that its competitors don’t necessarily have, though. For instance, the device will utilize a 3,000mAh battery (significantly larger than the iPhone 6’s 1,810mAh battery), and will have a microSD slot (something that Samsung eliminated from the Galaxy S6).

The G4 will also push customization, with interchangeable covers that can alter the appearance of the phone on the go. Particularly notable is an leather cover option, which brings a classy and old-fashioned look to the phone. Understandably, reaction for the leather look has been mixed online. After all, most recent smartphones have pushed a sleek and modern aesthetic, so it is certainly interesting to see a design that goes in the opposite direction.

While the leaked renderings do shed a lot of light on what consumers can expect from the LG G4, not all of the specs of the phone are out there yet. For instance, we don’t know what the processor power of the phone will be, or what kind of display resolution it has to offer. LG will get the chance to unveil that information in two weeks, when the G4 was originally scheduled to be announced. Thus far, the company has announced no plans to move up the announcement, and it isn’t clear how the leak will affect the rollout of the phone.
