Madonna plants open-mouthed kiss on Drake to make political statement

Madonna attempts to fight ageism by kissing rapper half her age.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, 56-year-old singer Madonna discussed the issue of ageism in popular culture and expressed her refusal to behave a certain way simply due to the expectations of others. The pop icon appeared as a surprise guest during the end of Drake’s closing Coachella set, and shocked viewers by giving Drake an intense open-mouthed kiss despite the “Best I Ever Had” singer being exactly half her age.

From the coned bra she wore during her 1990 Blond Ambition tour to her infamous kiss with Britney Spears during the 2003 VMA’s, Madonna has spent her career shocking her fans and critics. While she often feels pressured to give up her bizarre antics due to her age, Madonna explained to Rolling Stone that that sort of expectation shouldn’t be allowed in today’s society.

“I always think to myself, why is that accepted? What’s the difference between that and racism, or any discrimination?,” she asked. “They’re judging me by my age. I don’t understand. I’m trying to get my head around it. Because women, generally, when they reach a certain age, have accepted that they’re not allowed to behave a certain way. But I don’t follow the rules. I never did, and I’m not going to start.”

When she joined Drake onstage during Coachella, Madonna sang bits of “Human Nature” and “Hung Up” before grabbing Drake and intensely kissing him.

“What the … just happened?,” the rapper asked the audience.

Madonna then posted a picture of the open-mouthed kiss on social media, writing “Pics or it didn’t happen” to further remind fans that she won’t conform to social norms. Despite his initial shock, the stunt helped create more buzz for Drake, who announced his 2015 Jungle Tour with Future on Monday.
