Google I/O is here … and there are some huge topics about to be discussed

Google I/O is the annual meeting between Google and developers, and the hot topics at this year's conference include virtual reality and Google Glass.

It’s almost time for Google I/O, an annual software developer conference that is hosted by Google in San Francisco and features sessions that are often technical and in-depth, and there’s going to be a lot discussed at this year’s edition.

Google I/O sessions often deal with building web and mobile applications with Google and its open web technologies like Android, Chrome, Google Web Toolkit, and others.

It was first started in 2008, with I/O standing for input/output, as well as “innovation in the open.” The first session in 2008 focused on themes such as Android, Google Maps API, and Google Web Toolkit. This year’s conference will delve into Android Pay, better privacy on apps, Google Hangouts, and many other topics.

Virtual reality is also likely to be a hot topic, offered through headsets that rely on computers and consoles. There is a half-hour session — “Make Believe” — in which Google will talk with developers on the future of virtual reality.

Then there’s Google Glass, which the company had seemingly shelved but remains a critical piece of technology for the company.

And will the iPhone 6S make an appearance? It might be too soon for the Google I/O conference. But it could come up in discussions.
