Schwarzenegger stars in his first dramatic role…in film about zombies

Schwarzenegger leaves his tough guy persona behind for 'Maggie'.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is most famously known as the Terminator and has built a lucrative acting career off playing the action hero but that is all about to change. In his new film, Maggie, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on Thursday, Schwarzenegger portrays a softer and more tender hearted role than his fans will be used to.

The plot revolves around a family that is living in a post zombie apocalypse world. Schwarzenegger must face the difficult choice of quarantining his infected daughter, played by Abigail Breslin, or bring her home to live her last days with her family. He chooses to bring her home but as the movie progresses this gets problematic and Schwarzenegger character has to deal with the consequences.

“It is probably the most human zombie story,” Schwarzenegger explained to the Wall Street Journal when asked how Maggie differs from the many other zombie stories out there.

He goes on to explain why he chose to take on a dramatic role at this point in his career.

“[Maggie] is something that I’ve never done before. I thought that now, having been a father for 25 years, I’m ready for something like that. I can relate to the situation,” he explained. “It’s a movie I could have never done in the past. Now was the appropriate time to do it.”

“I’m really proud of my new film, Maggie,”  Schwarzenegger posted to Facebook when the trailer first aired. “My co-star, Abigail Breslin, is absolutely incredible in the title role, and our director, Henry Hobson, made a beautiful film.”
