Teen who attended prom with Jaguars star Sen’Derrick Marks dies from liver cancer

It was a heartwarming story of a girl who had been through so many rounds of chemo that she just wanted one night to feel normal, but that story has come to an end.

An 18-year-old high schooler who got to go to the prom with Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle Sen’Derrick Marks earlier this month as she battled with liver cancer has passed away.

Khameyea Jennings died at Wolfson Children’s Hospital on Thursday, according to a Jacksonville.com report.

Marks had paid her a visit at Wolfson where she had been receiving treatment for the disease, bringing her some flowers and asking if she would be his date to the Frank H. Peterson Academies of Technology’s prom. Both wore white and gold at the event.

Khameyea’s mother, Laquandra Jennings, said that it was a welcome respite to enjoy a regular day with a special guest. For her, it was finally an opportunity to be a normal kid for a day without having to worry about chemo and needles, and just enjoy a day at the prom as a teenager.

Jennings enjoyed a ride to the prom in Marks’ Lamborghini. Marks said he just wanted to “make a difference” in the girl’s life.

Jennings had been diagnosed with liver cancer back in 2013 on Mother’s Day. She wore a white dress and held a tiara and a small gift box as Marks helped her down the front steps on her prom date.

The event happened thanks to an organization called Dreams Come True of Jacksonville, which reached out to the Jaguars about a prom invitation, which Marks was happy to participate in.

Marks was a second-round pick from Auburn who was formerly a member of the Tennessee Titans before joining the Jaguars in 2013. He tore his ACL in the final game last year, and is currently recovering from knee surgery. However, despite his injuries, he didn’t want to miss the chance to dance with Jennings, promising to “cut that dance floor up,” he said according to Jacksonville.com.

It was a difficult prospect for Jennings, however, as she gets tired due to her condition, but she looked forward to a chance to feel normal for a night. She confessed she knew “nothing about sports,” but she liked Marks.
