Shocking story of Arizona dog found hanging in a tree prompts flood of donations

Police are searching for the owners responsible for the terrible deed as Sunny recovers with a foster parents and $20,000 in donations floods in to help her recovery.

People have donated $20,000 to help an Arizona dog that was found dangling from a tree a couple weeks ago and is currently recovering.

The dog, a shepherd mix, was found May 12 with a rope around her mouth hanging from a tree in Tucson, making headlines around the world and prompting an outpouring of support and sympathy, according to an Associated Press report.

Sunny is slowly starting to recover from her ordeal and a foster parent has taken her in, said Pima Animal Care Center director of shelter operations Jose Ocano according to the report.

Ocano said the dog was getting “her spirit back” and is starting to become more trusting of people. He said that Sunny had gotten attention from around the United States and even in the international press as people poured thousands of dollars into her recovery. The shelter was using Facebook to keep everyone updated on her recovery with updates and pictures.

The fund more than handled her Sunny’s medical costs, which were about $2,500, and the rest of the money will be donated to help other animals at the shelter, which hosts about 650 dogs and 300 cats every day.

As for how Sunny ended up in such a terrible situation, police are trying to figure out who her previous owner was. The dog did not have a microchip and showed signs of neglect.
