Truck kills 6-year-old boy on trampoline

The truck was doing speeds of 50 miles per hour when struck another vehicle and went flying into the backyard where the boy was.

A runaway truck in Iowa that careened into a backyard struck and killed a 6-year-old boy who was on a trampoline at the time.

The boy, Irving Aguilar-Gonzalez of Des Moines, was reportedly jumping on the trampoline at around noon on Monday when an Arizona-plated white pickup truck smashed through a fence and struck the boy on the first day of summer break, according to a USA Today report.

The driver, 44-year-old Guadalupe Villa-Guzman, faces vehicular homicide charges.

Police tried to save the boy by getting a tow truck to move the pickup truck, but the child had died.

Another young boy, 4-year-old Javier Falcon, was near the trampoline when the pickup smashed into it, but he was uninjured. His mother had taken him to a nearby hospital.

Villa-Guzman had been driving on a suspended license. He was taken into custody after the incident. He had apparently also struck a Toyota Highlander SUV shortly before the fatal accident, causing his vehicle to jump a curb and crash into the backyard, with police estimating he was driving at speeds of 50 miles per hour at the time of the accident.

The occupants of the other vehicle — a woman and three children — were uninjured.

Police say that Villa-Guzman had a single-vehicle accident back in 2012 when he struck a pole, although that was determined to have been caused by a seizure.

The report indicated that Aguilar-Gonzalez’s mother lived alone with her son, and had no other family nearby. Her neighbor said she was from Vera Cruz, Mexico.
