Ex-teacher pleads guilty to having sex with student

Kathryn Ronk had previously been convicted of the crime, and now faces additional charges and will be sentenced July 1.

A teacher in Michigan has pleaded guilty to sex with a student — and she’s already in jail for the charges relating to her encounters with the student.

The teacher, who formerly taught in the southeastern Michigan town of Mount Clemens and who had already been serving time in prison on charges of having sex with a 15-year-old student, has now pleaded guilty to two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct in related charges in Macomb County, according to an Associated Press report.

Kathryn Ronk, 30, appeared in court on Wednesday to the charges, which were downgraded from first-degree counts as well as other charges relating to the incident.

In March, she had been sentenced to six to 15 years in prison in Oakland County.

Authorities believe she had sex with the teenager in classrooms at Bishop Foley High School in the city of Madison Heights. Because some of the encounters took place in Macomb County, she faces charges there.

Ronk will be sentenced on July 1.

Ronk had originally been charged with five counts of criminal sexual conduct, including rape, but eventually pleaded guilty to two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct instead.

In addition to classrooms, the sexual encounters reportedly took place at a parked car in Sterling Heights and the boy’s home in Macomb Township.

Authorities first looked into the allegations in 2014 when the boy’s parents learned that he had a relationship with the teacher. Ronk was fired from the school and the investiation began.

Ronk admitted to having sex with the 15-year-old both during school hours and after hours.
