‘Surprise’ Katy Perry guest at Super Bowl halftime show will be Missy Elliott: report

Perry declined to name the surprise singer who would join her on stage at half time of Super Bowl XLIX, but a source told the AP it would be Missy Elliott.

Katy Perry said at a recent press conference that when a unnamed singer makes a surprise appearance at her Super Bowl halftime show, “jaws will drop and faces will melt,” but the Associated Press is already reporting that the singer will be Missy Elliott.

Lenny Kravitz is already one of the named singers to perform during Super Bowl XLIX at University of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona, but Perry also hinted at an appearance by an “old school” female singer who would be instantly familiar to fans, according to the AP.

A person who is familiar with the scheduled performance told the AP that the individual would be Grammy winner Missy Elliott who was featured on a remix on a Perry song, “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.).”

As far as what songs she would sing, Perry revealed that her two hits “Roar” and “Firework” would definitely be part of hte performance, which she said would be visually stunning in the style of Madonna, who was the halftime performer in 2012.

When asked about her love life, Perry imitated Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch by saying, “I’m just here so I don’t get fined.”

Perry, who said she’s friends with Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, said she will be pulling for Seattle to beat the New England Patriots.

The Super Bowl begins at 6:30 p.m. EST on Sunday and will feature the defending champion Seattle Seahawks, who won the NFC, against three-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, who are the AFC champs.
